Does anyone know what to do with an injired Pukeko? We found them on the road limping probably about to get hit. Called the DOC Hartline but was told they couldn't help as Pukeko are a very common native species so not high priority. We have no money to afford a vet and we are on an isolated peninsula far from rehab centres.

We've taken them home and have them in a dark box (ventilated) by the fire- but not too hot hopefully.

Their leg is injured, potentially the wing too.

Haven't given anything orally.

Still alert just resting now after a long drive.
