Hello! I know there are several old posts like this but I would love some advice!
My partner and I are planning at trip to Newfoundland from August 24- September 7th. I believe we are far too late for the icebergs and the puffins 😞, so that takes a couple things off the list (this the only time off we have)
Basically, we are looking for two things only: IRISH/EAST COAST MUSIC AND NATURE
We are absolute Irish music fanatics, we play Irish music almost every single day on our guitars at home and we go see live Irish music every week in Toronto. If we could, we would definitely pay some music lovers to stay at their house instead of air bnb's or bed & breakfasts, anything to get to sit back and admire these wonderful musicians and their music!
I've heard of Sullivan's Songhouse and Anchor's Aweigh and we will definitely check them out, but I don't think 2 is enough for us haha! Any suggestions or anyone know of any folks that would be willing to board us?
Other than that, we are really not into the drinking/bar scene, allergic to shellfish 😩 and probably are not looking for too many historical-based activities this time around. We are students living in Toronto, just desperately looking to get back into the peace and quiet of nature and away from the city for a little while. I honestly think we would both be happy to just lay in fields and do a few hikes haha but I hear many recommendations about whale watching, boat tours, kayaking, etc. Do you guys think these are worth it? We are not too fussed about these things (mostly because they are expensive and we have been fortunate to do similar things before in New Brunswick), but please let me know if you think we are missing out!
From my very brief google searches, this led me to believe that we should visit Gros Morne, the Irish Loop, and St-John's for a few days, but I am really open to any suggestions whatsoever! I've seen a lot of people saying to not miss Bonavista and Twillingate-not sure what to make of that! From what I have gathered, it is also not possible to drive around the southern edge of the island, is that correct?
Here's a few things I found on the way that seemed interesting, but I'd love to know if they are logistically tricky/ not worth it/ not good at the end of August and I absolutely welcome any hidden gems you have:
- Cape St Mary's Ecological Reserve
- Ferryland Lighthouse Picnic https://whalehouse.ca/blogs/blog/lighthouse-picnics?srsltid=AfmBOoo4gvIbfuouNBoqxrEeXkPB7aoSp-MGNdW6Lkf8_agkmTz-P211
- Hikes in Gros Morne: Tablelands, Western Brook Pond, Green Gardens Trail, maybe the mountain trail up to the summit, maybe Chimney Cove?
- No idea what to make of Francois, Ramea, and Fogo Island (how to get there...)
We need all the help we can get! Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions for unusual/interesting accommodation ideas
