Any anime/manga/lightnovel recs for where a character commits an act of huge love/sacrifice/loyalty?
Where the overall anime/manga/lightnovel is at least a solid 8/10 or at least a 7.8? It doesn’t have to be shoujo, any other genre is fine too. Something where you would tear up or straight up cry in awe or with pure empathy from the depths of their emotions? I’m tired of reading those villainess isekais whose everything is shallow or school shoujos where the feelings feel kinda small scale haha. Err, nothing too depressing though 😆 I just want to really feel the feelings 😅
I think Yona of the Dawn might have lots of this because of its setting and how highly rated it is. I’m waiting for it to be fully translated to read.
Some examples:
Super Supportive (not an anime but a webnovel. Most recent memory of this. It’s not a romance but this is the most intense, communicative non-romantic romantic relations I’ve ever read lol)
- Alden choosing to >!stop hiding his powers in order to join his friend/chosen brother to enter a life of war because he couldn’t bear the thought of the guy dying isolated and alone without him knowing!<.
- The guy, Stu’arth, after realising there was some binding preventing Alden from speaking about himself, went to some insane efforts >!to trick the guy who bound Alden to remove it!<. I was in awe at just how earnest, sincere and wholehearted he was about the act.
Ascendance of a bookworm
- RM’s rampages for Ferdinand’s safety. What comes to mind were her bulldozing >!her way to Ahrenbach to save Ferdinand.!<
- The reveal at the end of the story where Ferdinand set it all up where RM could >!meet with her family as herself!<. The whole scene had me bawling for ages. Because we all know just how much it meant to her after everything she gone through since. Everything she did, was to protect her family.
Colourcloud Palace
- A surprising plot twist near the end of the anime where Rou Ensei, a pretty reliable, cheerful and rough kind of man of a supporting character that was present for the whole series was revealed that >!he had feeling for Shuurei! It was such an arrow to the heart because of how much he did not show this at all so that Shuurei doesn’t have to worry about it. It was more impactful because so many other male characters had showed they had fallen for Shuurei causing all kinds of stress for her and he just kept quiet about his own feelings, hid it completely and lived his life purely helping her out as a good friend. He friendzoned himself for her sake. It was so moving because he was the only one in this haremlike story that had no selfish intentions towards her.!<
Apothecary Diaries
- In the novels, Jinshi >!branded his skin with the symbol of Empress Gokyuyou in front of her and the Emperor, to show to her that he will not be her son’s enemy to the throne as the emperor’s brother. This is because he wants to be able to get together with MaoMao without the threat of a potential son from their coupling being a threat to the Empress’ own son.!< I was shocked and moved at how far he was going to go to show his sincerity and his feelings for MaoMao.
Cardcaptor Sakura
- It’s not quite moving me to tears but it was hella romantic. When Touya >!gave up his powers for Yue to be able to exist because he loves him.!< It’s CLAMP so it was so pretty, romantic and swoony. 👍
