I haven't seen anyone speculate this but, Jimmy mentioned that if you quit outside of a trial , you don't get full pay. Before going into the trial, he spoke to someone about his contract and squared it all away that he would get full pay even if he didn'tdo the trial.

I think Adam's reaction was due to him thinking that his paycheck what about to be cut because of Jimmy's actions. Jimmy should have take Adam aside and asked him to look at his contract to confirm that he was going to get full pay as well. I think that would have helped the reaction from Adam.
