Matched on Hinge, got unmatched because of my vote. Is this normal now?
So something weird happened to me recently, and I genuinely want to know if this is normal now or I just got unlucky.
We all know how dating apps work-swipe left/right based on looks, vibe, prompts, etc. Fair enough. But this one caught me off guard.
I matched with a girl on Hinge. She was good-looking, profile was decent, nothing too extraordinary but enough to start a conversation. We started talking and things were going fine.
Then out of nowhere, she asked me:
“Who do you vote for?”
I was a bit surprised and asked why it matters. She said she’s looking for something long-term and wants to understand political ideology.
Fair enough, I thought. So I told her which party I voted for (not naming it here) and also gave my reasoning.
Her response:
“Okay, good night.”
At that point, I was already confused. Next morning, I asked her what about her. She told me the party she supports.
Then I asked:
“So… does our ideology match?”
She replied:
“No.”
I asked:
“So what now?”
She said:
“We can’t talk anymore.”
Just like that.
I even confirmed if she was serious, and she said yes. And then unmatched.
The ironic part? Her profile literally said “not political.”
Now I’m sitting here thinking:
Is this what dating has come to? Getting filtered out purely based on who you voted for?
I mean, I understand values matter, but completely cutting someone off over this without even trying to know the person beyond that?
Curious to hear:
Would you stop talking to someone just because their political views don’t match yours?
