Hi all,

I’m in Mumbai right now for work, and due to some last-minute changes, I suddenly have a few free days (Fri–Sun) before things resume next week.

I was originally planning to go back home, but now I’m debating whether I should use this time to try something new and do a short solo trip.

I’ve never really travelled alone before — not because I’m uncomfortable, just never had the chance.

I’m trying to decide between:

  • Staying in Mumbai and keeping it simple
  • Going somewhere nearby like Alibaug / Igatpuri / Matheran / Mahabaleshwar or anyother place. Open to suggestions
  • Joining a group trip so it’s not completely solo

What I’m looking for:

  • Not too crowded
  • Not too hectic
  • Something that feels calm, maybe even a bit reflective

Also slightly worried that I might end up feeling bored or out of place if I pick the wrong kind of trip.

Would love to hear from people who’ve done their first solo trips — what worked, what didn’t, and what you’d recommend in this situation.

Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone,

I recently got into the University of Birmingham for BSc Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science . I’m an international student and I’m trying to make a very informed decision before committing.

My total cost of education, including tuition and living expenses for 4 years, comes to around £140,000. I’m planning to take a loan of about £79,000, and based on rough calculations, my EMI after graduation would be around £1,500 per month.

From what I understand, to manage this comfortably while living in the UK, I would need to earn at least £40,000+ per year after taxes. I will also have a 2-year Graduate Visa after finishing my degree, which is the time I’d have to secure a job and transition to a sponsored visa.

I wanted to ask how realistic it is for an international student in AI/CS to land a £40k+ job within those 2 years. How is the current UK job market for fresh graduates, especially for those who need visa sponsorship?

I also wanted to understand how graduates from the University of Birmingham generally do in terms of salary and job opportunities. I know I’ll be graduating around 2030, so the market may change, but based on current trends, how should I think about this?

Finally, do you think the University of Birmingham is worth around £140k for AI/CS for an international student?

I’d really appreciate honest opinions, especially from people studying or working in the UK.

Thanks a lot!

Does having a Year in Industry actually make a significant difference when it comes to employability?
