Planning to work at Starbucks as a working student
I’m an upcoming 3rd-year college student taking Tourism Management. I already completed Barista Training at Manila Manpower Development Center and obtained my TESDA NC II certification. Through my barista training, I learned how to prepare espresso-based drinks such as lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, mochas, and iced lattes, as well as proper milk steaming techniques and basic customer service in a café setting.
While my barista training is more directly relevant, I also completed Food and Beverage Service training to further improve my communication and hospitality skills. This included additional exposure to table service, room service, and reservations. These are not directly required for Starbucks, but they helped strengthen my overall service mindset and professionalism. (I don't have an NC II license in F&B tho, just a pure training)
With that said, I am confident that I have the background to apply for a barista position at Starbucks. I am hoping to apply as a part-time employee, though I am aware that opportunities for working students can be competitive. Some of my classmates from MMDC were unable to secure part-time roles in Starbucks, so I doubt that I could secure one. However, I do have a cousin who has a connection to an "employer," whereas she said I just need to pass my resume to them so that they will "handle it" themselves. I don't really know how that works, but if it can get me into Starbucks, then sure.
One concern I have is during interviews, especially if I am asked whether I plan to continue my education. I understand that this can affect scheduling and availability, but I am prepared to explain that I can manage both school and work. I can adjust my class schedule since I am able to choose my time slots, and I am specifically aiming for an 8-hour shift from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM so I can attend classes starting around 3:30 or 4:00 PM. If needed, I am also willing to take some subjects in a self-paced or more flexible setup to ensure there are no conflicts with my work schedule.
Now that I have explained my situation and what I want, I would really love to receive ANY advice, especially from those working in Starbucks. I genuinely want to work in this company since it's my favorite cafe.
