Can’t afford to buy where I live, now discouraged to invest either.

I am a 26M and honestly feeling very confused and lost after the budget announcement. I recently got pre-approval for a $650k investment property. I’ve never owned property before, my plan was to rentvest so I could slowly build equity and eventually afford a nice home in the area where I actually live and work.

They said these changes would help first-home buyers get into the market, but now I can’t see how rentvesting is good choice. At the same time, I still can’t afford a property in my own area within my budget.

Feels like I’m stuck in the middle not wealthy enough to buy where I live, but now being discouraged from investing elsewhere too.
