Autism SPED best School District
So, I love Oceanside. I bought an amazing house here with a %5.2 rate and willingly pay out $6400 mortgage every month for a yard and great home. In January my now 4 year old was diagnosed with autism through Rady's..When I bought this house I figured if the schools were that bad I'd send him to private school. I had heard that sped was abysmal and Gen Ed was also not great. Welp. That dream has sailed. He needs speech support and is delayed in this area. He already receives private therapy and attends a preschool two days a week for socialization. He plays soccer. I just want him to have a good life. The IEP assessment through Oceanside Unified has been shocking. Bad. Totally f*cked. They didn't qualify him for Gen Ed tk which didn't seem suspicious until I found out tk is first come first serve. Are they saving those spots for other kids and putting a not intellectually disabled child in a mod/severe class because that's cheaper than giving him supports and a spot in gen-ed. Who knows. Im holding another IEP meeting but I'm thinking longer term now because this is obviously going to start costing legal fees and advocate fees. At what point will it make financial sense to sell or rent this house and buy a smaller place, or rent in a better school district. I'm scared to make the wrong choice, but if anyone has experienced OUSD and moved to a better school district and had a better (or worse) experience I'd love to hear your thoughts. I understand this is forever and I could spend every dollar trying to help my kid, but I'm not going to throw the towel in at age 4 just because Mom and Dad bought a house zoned for Libby.
