Hi all, I just started a new job (4 days in) as an HR/admin in a small SME construction company. I recently found out the person training me will be leaving at the end of this month. From what I can see, HR here is mainly handled by that one person, so I may have to take over most of it quite soon. They did mention they’ll be hiring another person to assist me, but nothing is confirmed yet.
I’m feeling quite overwhelmed because:
- I’m still new and don’t fully understand the processes
- There doesn’t seem to be much documentation/SOPs
- I might need to handle full HR (payroll, hiring, employee issues) very quickly
On top of that, most people in the office speak Chinese. My Chinese is decent, but I sometimes struggle with accents or certain terms, especially in a work setting. I’m worried this might affect communication, since HR requires accuracy.
I’m not sure if this is:
- A good opportunity to learn quickly
- Or a red flag that I’m being thrown in too fast
What would you do in my situation? Would you stay and try to learn, or start looking elsewhere just in case?
