I am a student and wanting to move in with my friend who is also a student. The only issue is his parents don’t want the lease to change, for some reason I am unaware of, and because they are paying it it’s their final decision. I was wondering any possible alternative solutions to this as I really quite need to stay with him next year for my degree. Could a deed of assignment/variation be used to achieve this without changing the lease? The most logical solution seems to be becoming a lodger under my friend and paying his parents, but that is dependent on the tenancy agreement and landlord. Would either of these realistically work, or are there any other reasonable ways I could manage to stay with my friend for next year without complicating the lease?

(UK) Can you use a deed of assignment to add someone to a current lease while staying on it

I am a law student in England and want to move in with my friend, but his parents don’t want to change the lease. If I am unable to move in I will be stuck on where to live next year so I really need this. If they don’t want to change the lease, could a deed of assignment be used to add me to the current lease, while keeping him on there, and not changing it? Reading on the Housing Act 1985, deed’s of assignment can be used to transfer the tenancy to a new person, but I am unsure of their application when the situation calls for a new person to be added while maintaining the current tenants.

If this solution does not work, are there any other solutions that wouldn’t change the lease but allow me to stay with him, or that would quell his parents fears, of which I am not sure of. Thank you very much for all your help, this is unbelievably stressful.

I enjoy cooking and baking and want to know if it is, and if it is safe to pick wild to put on cakes and in drinks. For context, this is the University of Reading (England), my campus is covered in these.
