LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE
- Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Can go higher, if probably necessary, but 2-3k USD range is preferred.
- Are you open to refurbs/used? Mildly optimistic yes, esp if there's a warranty/guarantee for longer than, like, 3 months?
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build Quality + Performance are very important. Been dealing with current laptop (Lenovo Legion Y740) with bad battery, so doesn't really bother me if battery life sucks but WOULD be a huge plus if it DID last. Don't care about bulkiness etc.
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Not at all
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15" - 17"
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. I task my computers. Run too many tabs. Need multiple programs open at once. And the Word documents I use are full of tracked changes and 500 pages long, and it TASKS computers. Will play 1-2 games a year, usually demanding ones. But primary use is heavy, heavy word processor editing. I need things to fly.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Baldur's Gate 3, occasional Guild Wars 2. Don't need highest settings but please no lag.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I can adapt to any of this. BUT bonus points if hardware is easily fixed (right now, for example, the keys are failing on my Lenovo Legion Y740 and the keyboard is welded??? to the top case and so I cannot easily replace the keyboard). By comparison I've fixed other laptops before with hinge and keyboard issues with patience, a drill, some bolts, (proper) glue, and ebay finds. I'm resourceful. I can fix shit. But not if it's designed to be unfixable.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Here's my gripe/issue. I cannot deal with Lenovo again. (Software issues, fraud issues, hardware failure--I just cannot. I accept that they are accepted as the best, but if I have issues again, I will hate myself, and I'd rather hate myself for another reason--please don't suggest Lenovo.) Alienware seems overpriced? ASUS Rog are apparently broken by design? People hate HP? Where do I go??? I've never used Macbook and worry about compatibility, so if someone wants to assure me that the route I take should be Macbook, feel free. Please help. Pleeeease.
