I dont know anything about it. But i believe it is the age of 16 because of the old generations who married off their daughters young. I don't know if the age of consent should still be 16 today. At 16 your brain is not developed, and you can get taken advantage of...? Let me know what you guys think.
or, I also personally feel like sexuality and virginity is a taboo subject in Mauritius as most people are religious or adopt a very old-mindset. If it is something used to control people, esp women, why does the law give us this right so early on, when most families control daughters until they are independant adults after trial of trying to prove themselves?
