Old garage with weird key…locksmith doesn’t like it.

Hey all!

I have a gate with a lock that is estimated to be 35-45 years old. Locksmith says it’s possibly Belgian, labeled Bern. He made me a key 7 years ago that I filed for 45 minutes to get it to work. Original key just broke off…I can probably get the remains out, but I have to wonder…can I get a new lock base to attach to the iron gate so I can have a modern key set with no issues for copies? What say you sub?

Edit: should say “gate” key.

Edit 2: Bolt holes for lock housing are 140mm/5.5”
