Hi! I’ve been reading a lot of web novels and manga lately and sometimes lose track of what my current list is.

What I remember: young boy grows up with his father and learns the first step of a technique from him. The same day, a monster invades his villages and slaughters everyone. The boy only survives because his father stayed behind to distract the beast while the boy “hid”.

Later, an elf comes and takes the boy as his student. The elf is very old and takes things as they are. He teaches the boy to be observant and the final steps to his father’s technique.

Later the elf leaves him in a town to learn social skills and confidence. The boy befriends a party and stays for maybe 2 years before his mentor comes back.
