Not looking for the generic "tailor your resume to each job" advice because I get that in theory but in practice how are people actually doing this??
I’ve been trying to apply to finance and marketing roles and im realizing that even when I think im matching the job description my resume still isnt getting through. I read the posting, I think i have what they want, I apply, and then just silence
Someone in another thread mentioned that the software does exact keyword matching not just general topic matching. so if the posting says "financial modeling" and I wrote "financial analysis" it might not even count as a match. is that actually true? because if so that changes everything about how im writing my resume
Also saw something about formatting mattering like if you put your contact info in a header or use tables the software cant even read it?
Idk I just feel like theres a whole layer to applying for jobs that nobody teaches you and everyone just figures out randomly. what actually worked for the people here who started hearing back? Need some new tips or tools to use. Been using a website that’s been pretty good at tailoring my resumes and cover letters to get through the AI software at least, but wondering if I can do more?
