My child gets spit on and hit during and after school
My son is 6 and in kindergarten. We take him to BJJ classes as well as boxing for self defense. Sometimes in school someone would spit on him (blowing raspberry) or he’d randomly get hit by someone. He might have done or said something that triggered them, it’s possible, but I’m not sure. But we’ve taught him to never be the first to hit.
Today, we were at the playground after school and another kindergartener hits him in the arm and they both basically walk away from each other. My son informs me. I ask if he said stop or defensively fight back, he says no to both.
My concern is that he doesn’t speak up or fight back, we’re trying to work on that.
I’m also wondering how often this happens to your child- like a random hit or spat with another child? I do see boys roughhousing, but my son doesn’t seem to do that and is sensitive to it.
I would also like any advice in regards to how to deal with this… is it even advised to tell the teacher? (He has to a different teacher and was dismissed)
I don’t want him labeled as a “tattle tale” and would rather him fight back and we could deal with the consequences later. I’m open to any suggestions or advice.
Edit: Hey guys thank you so much for the perceptive! I’ve already spoken to my son and changed our approach on how to handle things. He’s gentle in nature and it would be unlike him to “fight back”. Obviously I didn’t know how to handle this situation which was why I made the post and it was definitely eye opening! Ive never personally experienced this myself and as an immigrant growing up in the US with non-English speaking parents, we were always told to stay quiet. Thanks again!
