Wisdom teeth recovery tips
I’m getting my wisdom teeth out tomorrow (5/13) at 9AM. On the 17th, I have driving to West Virginia (roughly 6 hours from me) to go backpacking/camping with my friend for and we planning on n being home by 3PM on the 20th. Originally my appointment was for the 11th but they recently moved it to the 13th giving me less time to recover than I would have hoped. I’m wondering what I can do to completely optimize my recovery?
Currently:
I have a gallon of pineapple juice that I began drinking today and I foresee roughly 20 ounces being drank by the end of the day (unless more/less is recommended). Should I keep drinking this after surgery?
I’ve been drinking a lot of water/electrolytes as I’ve heard that’s very important and helps too. I also went on a run today which is why I’m recovering with extra electrolytes.
I began taking Arnica today and plan to continue for the next 2 or so days (if the dentist says that’s okay). I know it won’t necessarily help much but I figure it’s better than nothing.
Post Op:
I plan on continuing to drink pineapple juice/take Arnica.
I’m not sure whether or not I should take ibuprofen or Tylenol. I don’t plan on taking any prescribed pain medication unless I absolutely need to.
I’m going to ice for 20 minutes on/20 minutes off as often as I can
I will rest and not do much aside from eating smoothies and yogurt.
I know sleep is very important so I’m going to try and get a lot of sleep tonight and the next few days. Am I able to take melatonin or sleep medication? I don’t normally take either but I’ve had trouble sleeping lately and would like to know if that’s a possibility for better recovery.
I would really appreciate any advice on my current plans, things that I should add/remove/change for pre and post op, as well as things I should bring with me while camping. Thank you!
