Panicking over test results
Recent test results and medical PTSD from a series of cancer scares have got me panicking about recent test results, and I’m not sure how badly I should be worrying. (Female, aged 40).
My RBC has always been on the very low end (no higher than 4.12 in the last few years), but it’s now the second lowest it’s ever been and my serum ferritin has plummeted from 86 to 19 since my last blood work a year ago. Newest results were:
- RBC: 3.89
- haemoglobin: 131
- haematocrit: 0.387
- serum ferritin: 19
I have a follow up on Friday to discuss next steps but my GP has indicated that they think the likely cause is unexplained internal bleeding. I had a FIT test in March that shower no presence of blood, but I’m now panicking that this is related to CRC or stomach cancer.
Is it possible to have such a drastic drop from a cause that isn’t internal bleeding or cancer related? I don’t have celiacs disease or abnormally heavy periods.
A quick search on here has shown several people with levels even lower than mine so I know logically it’s possible, but the GPs comments and the medical PTSD have me worried.
