I’m currently a college student in my early terms and considering going into data analysis. I’m a new mom, so flexibility and stability are really important to me.
I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and math, and I like the idea of working with data to find patterns and answers. I think data analysis might be a better fit for me than more coding-heavy paths, but I’m trying to get a realistic idea of what the job is actually like day to day.
I had a few questions and would really appreciate any honest insight:
What does your typical day look like as a data analyst?
How stressful is the job in reality?
Is it realistic to find remote or flexible roles, especially early on?
What tools or skills do you actually use the most (Excel, SQL, etc.)?
If you could start over, would you still choose data analysis?
Are there specific classes I should focus on while I’m in school?
Are there any classes or topics that weren’t very useful once you started working?
I’m trying to be intentional about what I focus on so I can build the right skills and not waste time, especially balancing school and being a parent.
Thanks in advance—I really appreciate any advice or experiences you’re willing to share!
