I’m hoping to get some insight from people who grade a lot of modern Pokémon cards or have experience with PSA’s treatment of factory foil issues.
I have an Illustration Rare where the foil layer is slightly visible on the silver border. Not silvering (no chipping, no rough edges), and not holo bleed in the artwork, just a faint foil shine that shows up on the border when tilted under light. The card is otherwise extremely clean.
I watched Sleeve No Card Behind’s guide on holo bleed, and he states that
>"holo bleed does not affect the grading process and will not hurt the card’s chance of receiving a 10".
However, all his examples show bleed in the artwork, not on the borders, except for some Japanese cards where the foil being visible on the borders is intentional.
The video also explains that PSA has resumed grading holo bleed normally, but I can’t find anything that specifically addresses foil visibility on the borders of modern IR/SIR cards.
So my questions are:
- Is foil showing through the border considered a defect (similar to silvering) that affects the grade of a card?
- Has anyone received PSA 10s on cards with this exact issue?
- If you’ve submitted modern Illustration Rares with this kind of border shine, what grades did you get?
I’d love to hear from anyone with experience on this topic! Thanks in advance for any insight.
