I’ve been dashing off and on in my city since DoorDash came here back in 2017. Did it for a couple of years straight during Covid and haven’t done it since 2022, up until recently. Been trying to make some extra money lately (I’m on salary) so I’ve been dashing during lunch and a few times in the evenings lately.
So today I turn my dash on as I’m leaving work. I placed myself a Taco Bell order- one soft taco w/extra sour cream- before I left work. I don’t usually pick up at this location but today I was brought there for an order. When I get there, my order is on the counter and I let them know I’m also picking up an order for DoorDash. The young employee tells me that it’s against DoorDash’s rules to place a personal order while dashing and walks back to the line. I let her know that I wasn’t aware of that and got online to check while I keep waiting for the order.
About eight minutes later, a second young employee comes out to me to tell me that they’re refusing to give me the order because I placed my own personal order and it goes against DoorDash’s policies. I let her know, quietly and calmly, that that wasn’t the case and I tried to show her on my phone where it stated that. She just kept repeating herself and I asked her if she could show me on her end where it says that because I want to ensure I follow the rules. She just kept repeating herself in a monotone voice so I went out to my car and contacted support.
I was sitting in my car for about four minutes waiting to get support on the line and while I do, two young employees, including Ms. Monotone from earlier, came out and took several photos of me and my car. I finally got on the phone and support attempted to call the store to let them know that isn’t a DoorDash rule but when he back on the line, he said they wouldn’t budge and said it goes against Taco Bell’s rules. [I know this isn’t true because I often do this at other TB locations while dashing, in fact, I just did it at a location right down the street last week and they gave me TWO FREE Double Decker Tacos (which aren’t even on the menu anymore- I asked for one, told them I’d pay for it just wasn’t sure how to order it on the kiosk and they made me two and didn’t even charge me- Real MVP’s there!).]
Okay so now they’re saying it Taco Bell’s policy, not what TWO employees told me about it being DD’s policy. While I’m on the phone with support, three young employees come out to my car, surround the front and start banging on my fucking car!!! Ms. Monotone was standing at my window, yelling something, I didn’t hear her cause I was on the phone with support. The male employee sat on my car hood and started bouncing as Monotone was yelling with her face in my window.
All of this BS for what?!?! I can completely understand the people who place orders when the store is busy (I don’t), or they’re standing there waiting for their personal order while they already have their DD order (this didn’t happen), I could even understand if this was this particular locations policy- I get it, that’s fine. Let me know, I won’t come here again/do it again, but give me the damn order now so I can be on my way. But none of that was the case. There were just some majorly power-hungry children/young people at this location who didn’t understand both the law (as independent contractors, I read on the DOL, that DoorDash is not allowed to put parameters on us like this) or how to treat people/customers.
Luckily, I have a dashcam and DoorDash support called the police because they could hear the commotion on the phone. All three employees got tickets for vandalism and “inciting criminal mischief”, whatever the fuck that means. I was just really blown away by their behavior! I left a bad review on Google and Yelp, I plan to email the corporate office later (though they’re likely franchised) and email the manager. Anyone else ever come across some dumbass employees taking things into their own hands while dashing??
