New House Nightmare
Hello! I need some major help from this thread lol.
We have recently purchased our first home, it has GREAT guts, everything we are looking for. We got it for a fantastic price, due to the following issues.
The previous owner left it in serious neglect, allegedly the wife worked for an animal rescue and the entire place REEKS of animal and urine.
We have obviously pulled up ALL flooring down to the concrete, as well as took out every baseboard and trim. We are ripping out some walls, repainting, reflooring, etc (although we haven’t made it this far yet). There were still wet urine stains UNDER the floorboards.
I am planning to mop the walls before we repaint. Our contractor suggests bleaching all concrete flooring multiple times over, letting it sit and air out with big fans and everything open. I am VERY afraid with how strong the smells are that this will either only mask it, or make it worse by combining bleach smell with ammonia. There is no longer much actual pee residue, only intense residual smell. I suppose I am looking for guidance on the best way to go about doing this. What would be the best substance to mop the walls with, but more importantly how should we tackle the floors? We have some time to get all this done, so I do not mind taking multiple routes if need be. Happy to answer any questions. Thank you in advance!
