Gestational diabetes and hunger

So I am almost 34 weeks and have GD. I manage it with diet for now although I started seeing an increase in my numbers this week. I try to follow the rules , but I do have a few spikes per week(usually annoyingly just above the limit). So far this is not a concern by my doctors. The thing is I started to get hungry and miserable because of the hunger. I count down the minutes so I can have a snack (I was told every hour is ok), but of course even the snacks are like 2 oat cakes with cheese, an apple, carrots with a certain amount of hummus. Not enough for my third trimester hunger!! I wish I could just eat like the pregnant ladies in the movies 😭. From intense nausea in the first half of the pregnancy to this after the 28 weeks test, I barely had a month of carefree pregnancy. Is anyone else out there feeling miserable because of GD?
