Not trying to hate on MBAs, just sharing something I have been noticing.
Lately, almost everyone around me is preparing for an MBA. CAT, GMAT, coaching, mocks, it’s everywhere. And it made me wonder how many people are doing it because they truly want to, and how many are just going with the flow because it feels like the next obvious step.
I’ve had a bunch of casual conversations with friends and peers. Whenever I ask “why MBA?”, the answers sound familiar, better package, more opportunities, career growth. All valid reasons, but most of the time it doesn’t go much deeper than that.
There’s often no clear role in mind, no specific direction, just a general feeling that this is what you’re supposed to do after graduation or a bit of work experience.
And honestly, I get it. When everyone around you is moving in the same direction, it’s hard not to feel like you might fall behind if you don’t do the same.
But at the same time, an MBA is a big investment in terms of time, money, and effort. Doing it without real clarity can also backfire.
I’m attaching a short video that captures this thought well.
Curious to hear from others, did you choose an MBA with a clear goal in mind, or was there at least a little bit of FOMO involved?
