Finally getting started!

For MONTHS I have had the pieces cut for this hodgepodge quilt and for Mother’s Day I finally gave myself the time to get started. Getting over that hump is always the hardest part! Now I’m hooked on making these little star units. I can bang one out in 20 minutes or less while the kids are playing or napping. This quilt is for my 7 year old daughter and we had a blast picking out these fun fabrics. These are just the pinks but there will be some wackadoodle oranges and yellows too 😍

Camping prep meeting ideas

-My 2nd grade Brownies are doing our first camping day next weekend. That is, we have a camp site for a full day but will head home in the evening instead of sleeping over. If all goes well we may try overnight camping in the Fall. I have a good idea of what we might do while we are there, including badge work for the eco friend badge.

-We have our usual meeting this Wednesday, 3 days ahead of our trip so I was planning to use this as a "prep" meeting to get the girls ready. So far I have these activities in mind:

  • Edible Campfire- they will love this! https://browniesmeet.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/edible-campfire-2-0-healthier-alternatives/
  • Mess Kit making- I am planning an IKEA trip in the next few days to stock up on plastic dishes and will get mesh lingerie bags from the dollar store. I will let them put together and somehow personalize (?) their own mess kits.
  • Meal prep of some kind- what can be done ahead of time to make outdoor food preparations easier? Whatever we do will need to keep from Wednesday to Saturday.
  • Review leave no trace principles. Are there any good games to enforce this message?
  • We just finished our First Aid badge so I will encourage girls to bring the first aid kits we made
  • Discuss what to pack for different kinds of weather, sunscreen, bug spray etc.

I'm open to other suggestions as well! This is our first bigger step into the outdoors so I'm excited but a little nervous!

My family (me, my husband and our 3 kids ages 7,5,2) are visiting Paris this week, leaving Monday morning. We are staying in the 5th near Place de la Contrascarpe. We have done Luxembourg gardens twice, the Eiffel tower, and toured central Paris today including the boat tour and Notre Dame. We are absolutely wiped out. Everything is insanely crowded so I have been on high alert the entire time. I can’t take my eyes off the kids for 1 second, and even walking down the street is a challenge due to the crowds. They’re either in someone’s way, or being ushered into traffic at all times. I understand it’s a holiday weekend and the weather is amazing but YEESH these crowds are insane. Even Luxembourg Gardens is too crowded to really enjoy.
Where can I take them tomorrow where they can run free and I can relax? We’re willing to take the metro off the beaten path if it means we can just take it easy for a little bit!
