This is why I love the first season of Supernatural and why it became my favourite TV show.

Every time I rewatch the first season of Supernatural, it really makes me realize how hard they cooked, because it is extremely good and it never gets old.
The plot is amazing and well-written. Two brothers killing supernatural entities throughout 22 episodes in the search of the demon that killed their mother and Jess (Sam’s girlfriend). It’s simple and it works so well, and the writers did such a good job in making this plot resonate with its audience and dive deep in every subject it touches. Taking urban legends and popular entities like the lady in white, Bloody Mary etc, gave the show a unique vibe that kinda got lost in later seasons.
I think every supernatural fan can agree that Sam and Dean ARE the best brothers in television. Their relationship is so entertaining to watch and their love for each other is genuinely inspiring. I love that in one episode they can go from putting itching powder in one’s underwear and almost die for them 20 minutes later. Also, Jeffrey Dean Morgan did an amazing job as portraying the absent father. John’s character was sometime infuriating to look at, but that is what makes him an amazing character. Even though he does care about his kids and shares emotional moments with them throughout the end of the season, he is still blinded by the rage he has for Azazel.
The entirety of the season ha piss-laughing level humour. Seriously, one of the reasons I love this show so much is because they’re able to have episodes that are super serious but still have you wheezing like a kid. Dean is so unserious and I love it so much. I rarely saw a show where one of the protagonists gets almost run over by a car and then say “no chick flick moments” in the next scene. I love that the show paired horror/thriller entities and made it super funny to watch at the same time.
I think that the aesthetic of the show is my favourite thing that came out of it. It starts with the little grey filter and the dark ambiance it has. The first season feels like a rainy day which I personally love. Also, the fashion style in the show, the props (Baby, their father’s journal, the colt) and the music are perfect. The aesthetic is the cherry-on-top in my opinion, it’s what made this season perfect.
But yeah, I love Supernatural, but season 1 is by far my favourite season. Again, it’s got this aesthetic that other seasons don’t have as much. Maybe my opinion is a little biased because I usually like the first season of other shows I watch (Dexter, True Detective, etc). All to say is that Supernatural is amazing.
