Hi, I’d like to share a situation that’s happening in Bahía de Banderas, Nayarit, specifically at Playa Las Cocinas in Punta de Mita.

There have already been complaints, and all three levels of government have been involved, but they recently released a statement where they basically say they’re not going to stop the works that are currently being carried out without authorization, without environmental impact studies, and without concessions.

This area already has a history of conflicts with the same company, and local residents have been dealing with these kinds of situations for years. Now, it looks like they’re trying to take over another portion of the territory. Because of this, the community started protesting, and the government’s response has been to side with the developers, even confronting the residents.

In the most recent statement, the federal government only guarantees free access to beaches. However, this seems insufficient, since if the works continue, they could directly affect the very existence and functionality of the beach.

I think it’s important to take a more technical look at what could happen in the future if this project continues the way it’s currently being carried out. The coastal area has already been intervened, which could lead to changes in land use, disruption of the natural environment, changes in coastal dynamics, and direct impacts on the local fishing community.

If anyone would be interested in applying their knowledge to analyze or project the potential impacts, or even help investigate and spread awareness about this case, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
