UK law degree??
I am currently finishing up my undergrad in Canada (in Law) and wondering my future path. I have mostly dedicated my undergrad to researching Indigenous Law and therefore think I want to pursue this as a career. Problem is, I let my grades drop this last semester and ended up with a B+ average (about 9.6 CGPA on a 12 scale, or just about a 77-78%). I kind of feel like an idiot for letting myself give up but it was best for my mental health at the time. With these grades I probably wont get into a Canadian law school. I have not written the LSAT (and dont want to spend the money to write it if I dont need to).
I have been looking into UK LLB programs and find them of interest (specifically the online one at University of London). I know ALOT of people that are headed there to complete their LLB in 2 years, then are planning to come back to practice in Canada. I know everyone says that getting a job with a UK LLB is suppper hard and I hear you, but I actually have no interest in becoming a lawyer... I just need the degree for further education. Because of my interest in Indigenous Law I find the LLM program at UVic very interesting and see it as an end goal to my education. This program needs an LLB or JD to enter (hence why I am considering a UK LLB or maybe even an Australian JD).
This being said: will I have a lesser chance with an LLB (hopefully an online one) getting into an LLM program back in Canada? Would getting an online LLB be super frowned upon by admissions? End goal may be academia or research so will this LLB reflect poorly on this (ie. can I get there with an LLB?). To summarize: I currently have NO interest in becoming a practicing lawyer, I just want the degree so I can pursue further legal education (LLM). Be honest!! If anyone knows of another path to get to where I want to be, PLEASSEE let me know!! Thanks you all the help :)
