Switching from cytology/cytotechnology to cytogenetics

I’m considering applying for a job in my hospital in cytogenetics. I currently work in cytology and want to escape my department due to burnout. There aren’t any openings for cytology at the other hospitals in the area I’m in but there is potential for some to open up in the future, however it could be years as most just filled their open positions.

I saw a posting for cytogenetics and was pretty interested in it. I’m wondering if anyone here has experience working in this field and can give me some insight on the day to day workflow and your own personal pros/cons. I’m a little nervous about switching but I do think it would be really good for my future career growth and experience.
