My girlfriend and I will probably be moving soon into an apartment that we are planning to buy. Both of us have lived in houses with large yards our whole lives, and we have always had at least one dog as a pet. I had a Border Collie, while she had a Labrador and a Malinois. Because of that, we are already thinking about getting a dog after we move into our new apartment, and we would really like it to be a Cocker Spaniel. However, we have a few questions, and we would really appreciate it if someone with experience could help us. How much do Cocker Spaniels shed? How active are they, and how well do they tolerate being left home alone? We both work only morning shifts, around 7 hours, and we each commute about 30 minutes to and from work. Would that be too long for a Cocker Spaniel to stay home alone? How big of an issue are their ears in everyday life, and what are your experiences with keeping a Cocker Spaniel in an apartment? Also, do Cocker Spaniels have a specific “dog smell” that could become very noticeable in an apartment?
