So I’ll preface this by saying I know basically 0 about chemical processes. I’ve been toying with this idea in my head for about a year now to start a pyrolysis company focused on processing plastics from baby-related items. Think strollers, car seats, high chairs, etc. Afaik, those items mostly end up in landfills.

Are there any experts on pyrolysis that can comment on it as an alternative for these types of items? There are companies that claim their pyrolyzers are eco-friendly, but I don’t have the expertise to know if that’s true or just marketing. Also, even if the breakdown process is eco-friendly, what about using the byproducts? From what I understand, it’s mainly oil, carbon black, and scrap metal. Can the oil be burned in a way that doesn’t produce a bunch of emissions?

I guess my thought is that I’d love to keep this things out of landfills if possible, but I don’t want to make things worse unintentionally.
