What do you wish someone had told you before you started teaching in higher education?
For those of you who teach in higher education: what’s something you wish someone had told you before you started teaching?
I’m especially interested in the “hidden” parts of the job that people don’t always prepare graduate students/new instructors for… things like boundaries, managing workload, handling difficult situations, balancing care with rigor, imposter syndrome, or just the realities of being in front of a classroom for the first time.
What advice would you give your past self?
