I’m set to stay at a B&B in Sanford, Florida, before I board the Auto Train. I could have stayed at a chain hotel just a little further away, but opted for a place called the Park Place Inn & Cottages on South Park Avenue. I have no idea what the surrounding area is like and whether it is safe—for a person to walk around in the early evening or for a car with some personal effects parked over night. Does anybody who is familiar with the Auto Train Sanford station know the lay of the land? Many thanks.

I’m set to take the Auto Train (for the first time—any tips are appreciated) and will be spending a day in Greenbelt, MD, before continuing on my trip north to New York State. I’d like to break up the trip before reaching the Hudson Valley and take in the sights of somewhere not too far away from 1-95. I don’t want to drive through a metropolitan area (no Baltimore, no Washington, no Philadelphia) and am up for something different. I’m hoping to overnight at a midway point, maybe just under four hours north of Greenbelt. I would stay at a hotel for the stopover. Any ideas?
