Enbridge is planning an expansion of a major natural gas pipeline into New England, setting the stage for a political battle over the future of the Northeast’s energy system just as the midterm election season heats up.

The Calgary-based pipeline company recently briefed the National Energy Dominance Council on plans for an expansion of its Algonquin Gas Transmission line, according to a White House official. Enbridge is also briefing potential buyers on its plans, according to an industry official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive business matters.

This is unusual because House Ethics did not just say the Cory Mills probe is ongoing. The committee specifically cited the February 2025 D.C. incident where police responded to a report that Mills had assaulted a woman he was in a relationship with, and it also cited an October 2025 court-issued injunction involving a woman. The subcommittee says it has authorized more than 20 subpoenas, collected thousands of documents, and contacted dozens of witnesses.

The House Oversight Committee is dealing with a difficult issue as it gets ready to question Sarah Kellen, a close associate of Jeffrey Epstein, about what role she played in his crimes. The Wall Street Journal's editorial board is accusing the ethanol lobby of "extortion" after Congress handed it a sweetheart deal as "political compensation" for the damage caused by President Donald Trump's tariff blitz, and warning that American drivers will pay the price at the pump.

In a scathing editorial published Sunday, the board described how the corn fuel lobby threatened to hold the five-year farm bill hostage unless Congress agreed to permit year-round sale of E15 fuel, a blend of 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline, and severely restrict waivers from the ethanol mandate for small refiners.

"Consider it political compensation for the damage caused by President Trump's tariff blitz," the board wrote.
