Trauma therapy and play emotions parents

Hi I’m British Ghanaian and in my 30s and I’m having therapy at the moment and I was wondering whether some of the things I have experienced is quite cultural or truly traumatic.

my mum was quite depressed when growing up ( i remember this because she would cry a lot, have fights with my dad) so she left me alone in the room to play alone, unless it was for food, getting ready to go out etc for family functions but I don’t have much memories of my mum speaking with me or playing with me when I was around 4-6 years old.

is this quite common in ghana culture for parents to completely leave their children alone and be critical, criticise but not give loving affirmations?

have others changed their way of parenting or do you think it is still normal to parent in this way?

I feel like the therapy has definitely helped me be more confident and have more emotional control and better relationships.
