Finally got around to investing in an upgraded set of brakes over the OEM non-brembos after 20 years of ownership, and it’s been said on here before, but the improvement is pretty significant in regard to initial bite, overall smoothness, and brake fade. The whole install only took a weekend and was really straight forward. Would highly recommend pulling the trigger on it if you’re on the fence.

I opted to go with a combination of used Akebonos off of a 2015 Q70 which I picked up on eBay, Z1 2-piece sprinkle slotted rotors & adapters, Hawk HPS 5.0 pads, shorter banjo bolts, SS brake lines, and a Z1 master cylinder brace which I custom cut to fit my Alutec front strut.

I ultimately went with the Akebonos over Brembos as I liked the OEM aesthetic with the matching silver paint and Infiniti branding as well as the slightly larger size. Swapping the pads out on the Akebonos is insanely easy compared to OEM as well which is nice.

Also, I did stick with the OEM route as long as possible, buying new OEM calipers a couple of years back and upgrading to performance rotors and pads, but even with all of that, the Akebonos just feel so much more confident, firm, and planted.

After 5 years of wrenching on it and now with the Vortech supercharger, suspension upgrades, and finally some decent brakes to match, this car is insanely fun to drive and feels like a well dialed in, modern sports car. The juice is definitely worth the squeeze if you’re invested in your G and looking to get more out of it.
