starting an official thread for gaging interest and planning for a local Beltane celebration!!

i think a main event of a beach bonfire seems like a great natural starting place. perhaps we can make may bushes as well!! i’ve never done it before but it looks intuitive and fun :)

anyone else have any other ideas? would anyone like to help me with planning responsibilities? i’ve done some research but id love to hear from people who are more intimate with celtic pagan celebrations in their practice! and anyone else of course ☆

how are you guys feeling about this months new moon?? it’s feel very poignant personally in my life in the context of a lot of things!!

do you guys have any plan? do you have any specific things you like to do on new moon vs full?

i personally love to collect new moon water for spells and will probably do so :) do you guys work more with waxing or waning phases? or maybe you don’t work with the moon at all!

This server is meant to be:

• a safer, cozier, and more organzied space

hello witches!!! i'm so so so excited so report that i think we had an awesome and succesful meeting yesterday evening! a WORLD of thanks to those of you (few but mighty) who were able to make it out there and be brave enough to be the very first strangers from the internet to turn into the beginnings of an awesome community! it was seriously so amazing to meet each of you and you all seem like fantastic and engaging individuals i would love to build this space with.

if you weren't able to make it, we talked about having a casual social / planning meetup open to all new members like this one a month on the second sunday. so tentatively, the next one should be may 10! i can't wait to meet even more of you guys!

i wanted to share a debrief of what went on during the meeting and what we talked about to have a log and spark further discussion of next steps. i will also make more specific propposed action plan posts about some of the more specific ideas we had, but for now here's what we talked about!

𖤓 first we did introductions sharing why we're here and a bit of our background if wanted, there were five of us there including me! we had a range of different contexts, experience levels, and practices for sure which is great!

𖤓 then i asked everyone if there was anything specific they really wanted out of this community. some of the things that were mentioned which i wrote down as priorities:

"Learning other perspectives" "Sharing knowledge / skills in a casual workshop / class environment" "Pagan Holiday Celebrations" "Forming a coven"

𖤓 one thing we spent a lot of time on (probably unnecesarily, sorry!) was saftey and precations for keeping this group a safe space. with the reddit public for discoverability, a Discord Server will be made as a more private and secure second space. in order to keep this server secure, members will need to attend an in-person event and be vetted as a real and genuine person! for now, only the people who made it yesterday will be added but hopefully it can grow as more of us meet!

𖤓 on the topic of saftey, we also talked about kids and the general feeling on their presence in this group. as a general principle, this is not a space for kids and events are expected to be oriented towards people 18+ with things like fire, smoke, and potentially themes not appropriate for kids (like maybe someone wants to smoke or talk about death i dont know, not like anything creepy though). because of this, if an event is designed for kids to be welcome, it will be specificied on the poster / details, but in other scenarios, if you need to bring your kids please check with the group and consider responsibly. i don't want a ban on kids to bar anyone from participating in this community but as a general rule this space is not intended for them. the monthly social meetings will probably be fine though especialy since it's in the middle of a park!

how does everyone feel on the takeaways around saftey?

𖤓 since local nature magic / sacred sites was a huge interest, a cool project could be creating a local grimioire / guide / map to sacred sites and local magic in the Humboldt Area! i would love to be a part of this personally.

𖤓 we discussed trying to do a simple Beltane / Mayday celebration! one person in the group has a little more knowledge than me on this but if anyone else has experience throwing these types of things I'd love to hear. I don't know too much about Gaelic paganism but I'd love to learn and have more confidence leading this type of celebration next time! is anyone interested in helping organize this?

𖤓 the final thing we discussed was creating some sort of "Creed" or set of written values (that can live and evolve with the group) that can outline how we carry ourselves and who we are since there is so much (beautiful!) diversity in the witches here and types of paths they have. my idea was something like Humboldt Bay Witches can become a sort of "order" of occultists and smaller / more niche groups and covens etc can spring out of that. All we got as group so far is something akin to

1. Respect others paths / "We are all experts but no one is an expert"

2. Don't be a bigot or an asshole (common sense kindness, no homophobia, racism, etc)

anyone else have other ideas or feelings on this?

the day is here! at 4pm i will be at Sequoia park at the wooden tables near the main road at the big entrance with the "Sequoia Park" arched sign. hot coffee and tea available! i can't wait to see how this goes!

i checked out moss and bone for the first time at the redwood flea market last weekend! they’re amazing, i hope they get a brick and mortar location soon. anyone have any other recommendations or experience with other good establishments / businesses that cater to the witch crowd around here?

personally i just realized it was easter today! i dont celebrate easter despite dabbling in folk catholicism but with all the reminders today i thought id ask if anyone did anything! do you have any alternative celebrations? do you participate in christian easter traditions by choice / obligation and how do you navigate that?

i had a lovely day enjoying the nice weather with my dog and checking out the redwood flea market! picked up a couple cool little gemstone statues for my altar from this rock stand and got an awesome haul of herbs, incense, a super cool painting (and zine), and my partner got a black agate pendulum from moss & bone’s amazing stand!

hello everyone! it's decided! trying to plan around what works best for the most people based on the results of the form, our first official meetup will be held Sunday, April 12th from 4-5 pm. i want to emphasize again this is going to be super casual and the purpose is just to get things established, meet eachother, and plan for the future of the communtiy! that being said i will have a list of things i thought would be good to discuss and i encourage anyone else to bring their ideas as well :)

it will be at Sequoia Park in Eureka (85% of y'all listed it as a preffered option and it's pretty central to the Humboldt Bay area anyway) and we will meet at the brown pic-nic tables set up on the right side of the road coming from the big "Sequoia Park" arch entranch on the Zoo side. i am planning on bringing hot coffee and tea for anyone who would like it. please let me know what you guys think, if you're planning on coming, and anything else you'd like me to know before we have this first meet! if this meeting doesn't work for you in terms of time/place first of all my apologies and second of all please do let me know what doesn't work and we can discuss at this first meeting how to adjust so more people can attend the next one. (i'm thinking a monthly casual social/planning meeting is a great idea! i'll save that dicussion for next Sunday though :D )
