Polestar 2 - Infotainment system crash POSSIBLE FIX!
Hello all! I’ve been dealing with persistent infotainment instability on my 2022 Polestar 2 for quite some time now, and I made a similar post for this about a month ago. The system appears to crash/reboot frequently, especially under load. It's also extremely frequent as soon as I activate navigation in any way. I'll include the original video which shows a time span of 45 mins with two crashes.
Workshop previously inspected the car and concluded “no faults found”, but after several hard pushes, they finally took my car in again for a proper checkup. It has now been almost two weeks, and the solution for this issue seems to be the following:
AAOS IHU (infotainment hub unit) replacement:
- Older Polestar 2 vehicles (2024 and back) is equipped with the Intel Atom IHU
- The newer 4.2 Qualcomm Snapdragon IHU is for newer models
In order to fix this issue permanently (given that your issue is identical), you'll need to upgrade. There is no quick fix for this, so ignore all comments saying "soft reset, factory reset, TCAM reset" or any form of cache-cleaning. It wont work long term. What is required, and the reasoning that must form the basis for an upgrade, may vary from country to country. In my case, the car workshop had to run extensive tests to rule out all other options, as well as provide Volvo/Polestar with a comprehensive repair and fault log in order to get approval for the upgrade. I know that if the IHU dies off completely, it will be replaced under warranty. Other than that, you may need to pay out-of-pocket depending on where you live.
I'm excited to see if this process will fix things, and according to my service technician it most likely will remove the system crash errors, lag and slow/sluggish infosystem behaviors.

Here is a list of the issues I experienced so far, leading to the upgrade:
- Crashes occur very frequently when Google Maps/navigation is active
- System becomes progressively laggy/unresponsive prior and/or post shutdown
- Full or partial infotainment reboot (AAOS restart)
- In some cases, the system fails to reboot entirely
As well as:
- Extended boot time after reboot
- Severe UI lag / input delay
- Loss of turn signal audio feedback
- Driver display corruption (white/purple overlay on map before restart)
- Spontaneous app launches
- Voice assistant triggering without input
Hopefully, this will be a solution for you as well. I'll keep this post updated as soon as my car is back from the workshop and I've tested it for a few days!
