Sepsis As a Newborn
I M18, recently discovered that I contracted sepsis as a newborn and spent a week in the NICU. I'm told that it was a very serious infection and had an iv put right in my forehead, unfortunately I don't know the exact bacteria that caused it.
My doctors told my parents I had a very large possibility of brain damage upon other unknown complications. I contracted it by supposedly sucking on the umbilical cord. I'm 18 now and I have had no symptoms or problems throughout my life. No known cognitive deficits and no learning/sensory disabilities.
What is the possibility of me having a serious unknown complication?
Should I go to the doctor and request a CT scan or full body checkup?
Finally, if all is well. How lucky am I?
