Leaking Pond Advice
I have a pond that's roughly 25ft by 70ft, bean shaped with a sloped bottom. The deepest point is about 8ft below the bank. The pond is fed by a spring that flows for several days after a rain. The pond has a mud bottom, and shale rock below that. The spring, and the creek it drains to are all on my property.
During just about any decent rain, the pond will fill to the bank, and I've seen it overflow several times. The problem is within 24 hours about 4 feet of water will have drained out. Below that, water is only lost to evaporation. The way the bottom is shaped, adding two feet of depth would likely triple or more the amount of water it holds, and would be enough for some native pond fish, which is the end goal.
Is there anything I can do to help without destroying the existing vegetation or disturbing the "working" part of the pond?
