Had my cholesterol checked on January 30th and I was shocked at my results, my LDL especially was really really high (5.7mmol), so for the last 3 months I have been consuming a high fibre and low sat fat diet. I've tried to keep my sat fats to under 15 grams per day, which I managed most days and also concentrated on taking in as much fibre as I could each day. Supplement wise I took 4 grams of plant sterols a day, 5 grams of psyllium husk and for the last 6 weeks I've been taking a red yeast rice supplement which contained 2.9mg of monacolin K.
I didn't cut out red meat, I just made sure what ever red meat I was consuming was ultra lean, I also had some unhealthy meals over the 3 months, a few take away Chinese meals (twice in the 3 months) and some pizza (once). I ate porridge 2-3 times a day and probably doubled my normal veg intake, switched to wholemeal or wholegrain breads, I wasn't particularly tracking total calories per day but I did lose a stone in weight.

I'm very pleased with my results and going to speak to my doctor next week, because I've been taking red yeast rice which is just like a low dose statin I'm going to enquire about switching this to an actual low dose statin, I've a feeling the red yeast rice may have been the main driver in getting my LDL number down 50% as everything I've read online and on this subbreddit seemed to say it's virtually impossible to get a 50% reduction by diet alone, so I may aswell switch this to a regulated statin.
I've read plenty of posts on here over the last few months from people freaking out over their high LDL cholesterol and I was too so just thought I'd post my positive results to show that for some people big changes can be made by just making small enough life style amendments
