An 8-Team CFP Could Have Been the Perfect Middle Ground

Before the OU UT and UCLA USC moves, I thought the ideal format for the playoff was an 8 team variant. Simply have automatic qualifiers for each of the P5's conference camps to incentivize the full regular season and then have 3 at-large bids. To be inclusive of the G5, one of the 3 at-large spots would have gone to the committee's highest rated G5 team so effectively 2 at-large spots up for grabs each year.

This would have been the perfect middle ground between the old school BCS and these massive 12 / 24 team playoffs that will surely feature more blowouts.

Listening to Josh Pate get heated over the proposed 24 team format got me thinking about this again. What do you think?
