So this is what the latest work communication says. There are a couple of paragraphs before this, all just saying how we need to be better. Also, I work in a restaurant fwiw.
"Some of you seem to be getting complacent and don't have the same passion you once had. The ________ is a great place to work and we wanna keep it that way. When your here please be in work mode, attitudes are contagious. If your not happy, there are so many that do wanna work here, we get 3-5 applications a day of people that wanna work here.
We are a team, if you are always taking time off from your already part time shifts and are not willing to cover or help when others need this doesn't keep the team in good spirits, it drains the rest of the team, how upset are you when no one covers? We are running less people most days so picking up other shifts shouldn't be too hard, especially if your not averaging 3 shifts which is imperative.
____(manager 1)____ and ____(manager 2)____
Do this ask yourself and please respond in the comments,
1.) Why did you choose to work at the ________?
2.) What keeps you here?"
So this is posted, and all the comments are along the lines of "this place is my family, and I feel safe here, and this place changed my life". It feels completely manipulative to me. Having your employees "prove their gratitude" to you in a public forum so they can't be honest, while holding it over their heads that they are disposable because they get tons of applications a day. Here's the thing - I'm grateful for my job. But it's a job. This is an exchange of labor for compensation. I'm a server/bartender... this isn't the most fulfilling job. I'm here to make money, do a good job, and go home. It feels like such a gross abuse of power because the employees feel like they have to give the most over the top flattering answers, and it deters employees from feeling like they can express and concerns within the restaurant. I mean ... Am I crazy?
