Idk what to do about The Untamed!
Ok so I’m on episode 9 and I truly hate to say this but the changed plot is boring me to death!
I started out by reading the novels a year ago which I loooove and I enjoyed the donghua; even with the changes they made I still felt it captured the spooky/funny/romantic/tragic vibes of mdzs.
My question for novel fans is: in your opinion, does The Untamed start feeling more like mdzs at any point? I know it doesn’t precisely follow the novels but is the story completely different from here on out or does it at least have *some* of the same plot points? Other than the quite snazzy chemistry between WY and XZ it just feels…flat or something.
I do love the casting, love the costuming, everything’s pretty, looove all the wangxian moments, not bothered by lesser quality special effects.
The first ~two episodes where they were more closely following the story were great, but ever since this whole >!yin iron arc!< has been going on I just can’t even care about what’s happening. I feel like the changes they made, made it so much more predictable and stereotypical, like the wen clan >!being immediately portrayed as soo dark and evil and involved in the dark arts!< rather than just slowly gaining and then abusing their power. Why did wen ning >!have to have some dark history? He was just a supposed to be a regular, soft person who fell victim to bad/strange circumstances, which is kinda an important theme throughout the novels.!<. Stuff like that. (I don’t mean the censorship changes, which I ofc knew about, just other plot-related changes).
I usually like complicated and slow-moving plots, it’s more just that everything happening feels irrelevant. I love the wangxian romance ofc but a big reason I love mdzs is the story structure and plot.
I’m kinda heartbroken cause I was fully prepared to love it, and I mentally prepared to accept some plot changes, but it just feels like a *completely* different story. Do you feel it gets better later on in the show? I know so many people love this show, give me some encouragement!
** Just looking for more opinions, obviously everyone won’t feel the same, art is subjective, etc. Not trying to hate on it at all or start fights lol **
