Hey I’m pretty confused why ableton will adjust my clip gain when I consolidate a clip even with just blank space but why it does it at all, I think it does it for when splitting stems too after I warped the reference track.
Should I reset the clips back to 0db before doing anything else? Will the gain or reduction mess with my levels I had them set at?
Hi I hope someone is able to help me out. I’m trying to automate the release of my bassline for tension in the buildup to go from more of a pluck to pad. I duplicated the track and turned off legato and mono.
But how can I get the envelope to stop re triggering for each new note i think it’s still canceling the longer release, I know this because I have a 1/8th note gap at the end of every other bar in which I can hear the release be held during that gap until it eventually re triggers after the gap.
Hey everyone wanted to share something I stumbled upon sorry if it’s noobish, not sure if it’s common knowledge but my discovery is below. Curious to hear others thoughts.
I have my bass group, with a sub bass lane and a top bass lane. I had kickstart 2 automating on and off. I was bouncing the tracks to see the visualization of this on the waveform. I was surprised to see no ducking. When I remove the instance of kickstart 2 on the group and placed an instance on each bass lane and created the automation on and off, bounced the audio I saw the ducking be represented, as well as hearing the difference when soloing my bass.
I frequently use my group lanes to do automation with auto filters, sidechain, etc. Anyone have any thoughts, I guess that for whatever reason automating kickstart on the group lane did nothing!
I am using Max Stylers track "I know you want to" as a reference track and ive been listening to the first 9 bars for I think over an hour and my ears are officially cooked.
Is anyone able to tell me what he has going on that makes this groove so good?? It's so simple but adds so much. I copied the rest of the drums but without this bit I hate it.
You have to listen a little closely but its like beat 1,2 the same beat 3 gets exaggerated, then beat 4 goes back to the same as 1&2.
For bars 2&6 he switches it up by playing the less exaggerated hit one every beat. I attached the audio!
I’m looking for some thoughts and advice with my workflow leading up to the mixing stage and mainly the mixing stage itself.
For context I feel very good about getting a track together and usually don’t do too much with any mixing effects until I’m ready. I adjust levels as I go and once the track is done creatively I will begin mixing.
I start by adjusting all the level more fine tuned then I go through each track and pretty much do this EQ->compressor->saturator. Then on the group I will do EQ-> Glue Compressor -> very light saturator.
Usually my panning and effects like wider I do during creative phase, automation I do as I am making the track too.
Then mastering is same as mixing really just scaled back with a limiter to bring volume up.
I watched Sam Smyers mixing course and feel like this is how I got the workflow.
It feels like I’m doing this because he said to in his course rather than being intentional with my decisions and effects, I also feel like I say oh let me get these effects on so I can master and start a new track.
Any advice on how to be more intentional I guess is my keyword?
