We typically design our homes to the latest IRC code, based on the municipality that is demanding the most recent version. For example, when a large city near us switched to IRC 2024, we went ahead and adapted all our details and notes to reflect 2024.

We are now submitting a house plan in a municipality that is enforcing an older version of the IRC. I would like to leave our plans at 2024, since I believe the codes don't usually get less restrictive over time... they get more restrictive. Is this true?
