First ever bird photography outing!

I recently bought my wife a camera, a Fujifilm X-T30 III, for her birthday, then somehow fell down a massive bird photography rabbit hole as I was thinking of use cases for it.

The idea of getting outside, spending more time in nature, and slowly amassing a collection of photos of all the birds in my area felt like Pokémon Snap IRL…how cool is that?!

So I ended up grabbing a longer focal length lens, the Fujifilm XF 70-300mm, and took it out on a hike this past weekend.

These pictures are from my first-ever outing specifically trying to photograph birds, and I’m honestly pretty dang happy with how they turned out. Definitely a lot to learn, and not every bird is perfectly in focus, but I can already tell this hobby is going to be dangerously addictive.

Also worth mentioning: I’m completely new to photography in general, so this has all been one giant learning experience already.

Gear: Fujifilm X-T30 III + XF 70-300mm

Would love any beginner-friendly feedback, especially around composition, cropping, and Lightroom edits.

X-T30 iii settings for bird photography?

I’m completely new to photography and just picked up a Fujifilm X-T30 iii along with the XF 70-300mm lens mainly for bird photography.

I’ve been watching setup/tutorial videos, but I’m getting pretty overwhelmed because a lot of them recommend conflicting settings, and many seem more geared toward general photography or video rather than birds/wildlife specifically.

What settings would you recommend for a beginner bird photography setup on the X-T30 iii + 70-300mm combo?
