I’ve been working on Smash Toons for almost 2 years now, and I am finally in a great spot to say I’m done with art for the cards! I still have a couple art pieces to finish up for box and booster packaging and miscellaneous ads in due time but as for the cards themselves, I am pretty happy with how they’ve turned out. Here are just a few of my favorite cards I’ve drawn up so far along the journey. I hope to one day bring this game to the public but for now, it’s playtest, playtest, playtest!
Some toons claim this to be the very ticket that grants you access to Grincoil Circus in the Underside of Inkvale, but how to acquire it is still unknown, and those who do have it won’t give up their secrets!
Back at it with some more fun stuff! I’ve updated the card frames slightly and been hard at work trying to make some crisp and clean artwork while finishing up the first set. Here’s a preview at some of my favorite toons so far. Cryptids are a mini archetype within the Fiend faction, so they are labeled as such. Nightshade here is somewhat of a concierge for Cryptids, guiding them in the right direction, and being the only one so far who can take their Clumsy!
CHRONOLOGICAL LORE ENTRY #3
The Rise of Territories
As the world continued to settle, its lands became more than places to wander. They became places to claim.
What was once open and unbound began to take structure. Paths were carved with intention. Boundaries—once ignored—were now respected… or defended. Toons no longer drifted with the world around them. They chose where they belonged.
Across the Overside, regions became home—each offering something different to those who settled there.
High above all, Hobnail Heights stood as a natural stronghold. At its base, order took root, as groups gathered to build something lasting. From this foundation rose Brass Boroughs, where structure, work, and civilization began to thrive.
Not all followed that path.
Beyond the mountain, others spread outward, choosing environments that matched their nature rather than resisting them.
The dense wilds of Vicegarden Jungle drew those who embraced chaos and growth, while the surrounding lands evolved into the tangled Thornwaltz Thicket, where survival meant adaptation. Massive rainstorms followed by intense heatwaves and dry spells forced the environment into strange ecosystems.
Farther still, the open Bloomspill Fields became a refuge for smaller toons, who found safety not in strength—but in concealment.
Elsewhere, progress came at a cost.
The once-thriving Gutter Grove began to empty as movement and expansion disrupted what had once been stable. In contrast, Tumbletown grew from what others discarded—becoming a haven for scavengers, drifters, and those who lived outside structured society.
At the center of the world, Cracker Canyon stood apart from all others. Those who settled there did not question its strangeness—they embraced it. And in doing so, something entirely new began to take shape.
At the edges of the world, the divide grew even clearer.
The dangerous waters of Brinebite Bay attracted those who rejected structure entirely, while the vast Saltwharf Ocean led only to isolation and the frozen unknown of the Icy Isle.
By now, the world was no longer shared in the way it once was. Different groups had formed. Different ways of living had taken hold. Some built. Some adapted. Some took. And though no lines were drawn in ink… they were drawn with intent.
Inkvale had found its shape, but in doing so, it had begun to divide itself.
I’ve added user flairs so if you are a member of this community who enjoys that extra level of interaction and association, you can now associate yourself with one of the 5 factions.
Critter Cabal caters to Critters
The Hive caters to Bugs
Culinary Crew caters to Foodies
Greenhouse Guild caters to Plants
Sinister Society caters to Fiends
Which faction are you part of? 😬
I’ve also added some post flairs so as time goes on, more posts I make can be categorized and hopefully be easier to follow on your own terms
CHRONOLOGICAL LORE ENTRY #2
The First Disturbances
In the time after the Inkfall, the world began to settle into form.
The Overside flourished with life. Toons wandered freely, shaping their place in a world that seemed to grow alongside them.
Below, the Underside stirred in silence. Where the Ink pooled deepest, life formed differently—twisted, resilient… and ever-changing.
For a time, the balance held. But the Ink did not remain still.
Rivers once steady began to shift their course. Lands rich with life grew wild and unpredictable. Others, once thriving, began to thin… and fade. At first, these changes were subtle. Easy to ignore. Until they weren’t.
Stranger still—The Ink did not simply flow. It reacted. Not just to the land—but to those who walked upon it. Where movement was constant, the Ink stirred. Where change was forced, it surged.
Small disputes began to break out.
Over land. Over space. Over nothing at all. At first, they seemed no different than before.
But something had changed. Where conflict took place, the Ink gathered. Not slowly… but suddenly.
Clashes left more than damage behind. They left traces. Marks that did not fade. Changes that did not settle. No one understood it.
But the world was no longer simply growing. It was responding…
CHRONOLOGICAL LORE ENTRY #1
The Great Inkfall
Long before critters, plants, foodies, fiends, or bugs roamed the world, there was only a blank, silent planet—cold and desolate.
Then, without warning… the Ink fell.
From deep within the planet’s core, a living force—now known as The Ink Sink—burst into motion unleashing a massive storm. The sky rained ink. Rivers of ink spread like roots, seeping into the land and giving form to everything they touched.
Mountains rose. Jungles bloomed. Toons began to move, stretch, and bounce into existence.
But the Ink did not settle as it should have… and already, its strange ways began to ripple through the world.
Where it flowed cleanly, life thrived in the light.
Where it pooled too deeply, it twisted… creating something far more unnatural below.
And so, the planet split into two halves:
The Overside… and the Underside.
And with that— Inkvale was born. 🖋️🌎
