I've spent hours going in circles and I'm hoping someone here can help before I give up entirely.

Background: I registered as a Microsoft Partner to get verification on my CIAM app registration.

Problem 1 - Domain verification conflict

My verified domain is already claimed by my primary Azure tenant. Since CIAM requires a separate tenant, I can't verify the same domain there. Does this mean I can never associate my company's MPN with the CIAM tenant? And does it follow that every new CIAM deployment requires a brand new business entity?

Problem 2 - Partner Center association is completely blocked

I can't associate either tenant:

  • CIAM tenant: It doesn't appear in the tenants list. If I switch directories, the page tells me to log in with a different account.
  • Primary tenant: Throws a generic error:

An error happened while processing your request. Please try again. Something went wrong. Please try again, if this problem persists please contact Microsoft support.

Where I'm at

I've hit a wall on both fronts. I'm reaching out here for advice before I abandon CIAM and move to a different auth provider altogether.

Has anyone successfully navigated this? Any help appreciated.

Update: Solved - thanks to the advice here.

The fix was to verify a subdomain (auth.abc.xyz.com) in the CIAM tenant rather than the root domain. Since the root domain is already claimed by the primary tenant, a subdomain works as a distinct verified domain.

This also makes the partner/MPN association redundant for my use case as I own the API. The consent screen was suppressed simply by granting admin consent on the app registration directly, which doesn't require publisher verification.

I was never able to add the MPN or associate the Entra tenant even after verifying the domain. Hopefully Microsoft will fix it for others who need it in the future. To clean things up I've raised a support ticket to get the partner domain deleted as there is no option to do so in the portal.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
